It joins the startup offering an AI-powered playlist feature. Currently, Maestro is available in beta to a small number of Amazon Music users in the US on iOS and Android.
People included in the beta will see Maestro on the home screen after updating to the latest version of the app. They can also access the tool by clicking on the plus button to create a new playlist.
The idea is to use natural language prompts to create any type of playlist imaginable. Your prompts can include sounds, activities, emotions, and even emojis. You might ask Maestro to create a playlist of songs that look like robot emojis (in which case you’ll likely hear a bunch of Daft Punk tracks). Other prompts proposed by the company include “😭 and eat 🍝,” “Make 👶 genius,” “Hip-hop in the age of MySpace,” and, bizarrely, “Music my grandparents made.” Wow.
Based on these insights, it seems that the Maestro is more or less ready to handle any claims you can throw at it, although Amazon points out that the technology is still in beta. As such, the maestro may not always correct things immediately. The company also says it has safeguards in place to prevent offensive language and inappropriate claims.
Amazon plans to roll out Maestro more widely over time. As it stands, Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can listen to Maestro playlists instantly and save them for later (or share them with friends). Premium members and users in the ad-supported free tier can listen to 30-second previews of their playlists before saving them.
Earlier this month, Spotify launched for Premium members in the UK and Australia. The AI playlist works in the same way as Maestro.
