houston attorney, Ben AderholtHe was fired after sending a “harassing” letter to a federal judge.

According to Atlanta Black Star, the legal practitioner asked Judge Erica Hughes, “Who do you think you are?” Attorney Aderholt used his firm’s letterhead to mail the nasty letter in February to the US Immigration Service Judge Erica Hughes.
She began her tenure as a criminal court judge in 2018 before serving on the federal bench in the Biden administration.
The level of disrespect in the message was beyond professional. Hughes immediately released the letter to the public to expose the disrespect to which black federal judges might be subjected.
“I was shocked and surprised when I received that message, Judge Hughes told Fox 26 in Houston.
What did the message say?
Aderholt began addressing the judicial official by her first name as if they were old friends.
“Calling me Erica, like we were friends or like he knew me, started off in the wrong direction.” She declared.
Moreover, the correspondence became “gradually worse.” Hughes believes the presence of black female judicial nominees angers some Houstonians.
The Houston attorney described judicial officials as “political animals who treat our judiciary as political games.”
Judge Hughes was surprised by his use of the term “animals.”
“The animal part stands out to me, which is that any individual in 2024 would show such disdain toward an individual they’ve never met before,” she said.
Why was the Houston lawyer so angry?
According to a statement from the NAACP’s Houston branch, the letter allegedly made it clear the issue was about race. She apparently targeted Hughes because she is running “against a white Democratic judge in Harris County.”
Hughes said,I expect to be attacked when I serve in the military. “I do not expect to be attacked when I run for political office in a party, in a democratic system in the United States.”
After declaring her race, Judge Hughes was recently accused of falsifying 102 names on a petition in a lawsuit. But the Texas Supreme Court rejected the lawsuit.
She added:
“It’s so frustrating that, in the year 2024, I’m getting messages like this calling me an animal, calling me by my first name. I’m referring to this year because of the history of slavery in this country.” Hughes said.
I continued, “I don’t expect that in 2024. Democracy is what this country was built on. “I served in the military, so I can run as a judicial candidate in a free country as long as I’m qualified.”
The ousted lawyer’s firm, Coates Rose, issued a statement late last month. The company announced that Aderholt “exercised poor judgment” and was subsequently fired.
Coates Rose added that the Houston attorney’s employment was terminated due to the threatening tone of the letter.
