A Dollar General store in Wisconsin was forced to temporarily close after all employees resigned last week over “lack of discretion,” including low wages and an “unethical” food donation policy, according to a note left on the door.

“We cannot and will not work for a company that is not honestly and truly behind what they want the world to see,” the notice said. “Although we love and adore our customers, we must take a stand for society and not allow corporate greed to do so [continue] Preventing people in need from the help they need and could receive.”

Dollar General said the store was closed for only three hours on Saturday before reopening at 11 a.m
By Monday, the store was fully staffed with new and transferred workers.
Trina Triboulet, a former employee, said she had only had one weekend off since Christmas, and claimed the store only donated food to local pantries according to “very specific guidelines.”
“We throw away coffee that’s not expired but is close to expiring. Or we throw away a box of Lucky Charms that you know there’s a whole world of kids that love eating them,” Triboulet told a local outlet. Spectrum News 1. “But you can’t donate it, because you’re supposed to throw it away. There were tears shed… It’s disgusting and sad, especially for someone with morals.”
In response to Tribolet, Dollar General told the outlet that it continues to follow Feeding America’s guidelines.
“The Mineral Point Dollar General Store has donated nearly 7,500 pounds of food to local food banks like Second Harvest Food Bank in southern Wisconsin over the past 12 months,” the spokesperson told the outlet. “Food safety is a top priority for Dollar General and Feeding America members, and therefore, DG stores are required to follow Feeding America’s donation policies.”
