Google I/O is scheduled for May 14-15

The sun shines behind the clouds and the birds sing. This can only mean one thing: developer season is coming to an end. While the rest of us are out there touching the real and ideal turf, the world’s developers are rushing into conference halls to see what the next year holds for AI and operating systems. Things will kick off next week with NVIDIA’s GTC, and in the next few months will bring Microsoft Build, Apple’s WWDC, and of course Google I/O.

Invitations have just dropped for this latest event, which is set for May 14 and 15 at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California, which is the usual venue. As I write this, I’m outside, a plane with a banner is flying overhead and a bird has emptied the contents of its coat on me (I wish I was kidding), so I feel very prepared for the big event. We still have a couple of months to book travel, but we’ll be there (I might pack my hat this time).

While the show is specifically aimed at developers of Google’s various operating systems, things usually start with a keynote led by Sundar. Expect updates to Android, Wear OS, Gmail and more, along with some consumer hardware (Pixel 8a, anyone?) etc. Lots of new around Gemini and other AI offerings. Skydiving is optional. Bird poop, unfortunately, not so much. I guess those are the risks of the job.
