TikTok is approaching a possible US ban

[ad_1]

The House of Representatives has passed a bill that could force a sale or outright ban on TikTok, just days after it was first introduced. It now goes to the Senate.

The Protecting Americans from Foreign Controlled Apps Act (no, we’re not calling it PAFACAA) is the latest attempt by the government to restrict TikTok. If it passes, it could have one of two outcomes: TikTok’s parent company sells to a US-based owner, or faces a ban from US app stores and web hosting services.

Naturally, TikTok opposes the bill, saying it is unconstitutional. But they’re not the only ones: Free speech and digital rights groups are also objecting to the bill, with many suggesting that comprehensive privacy laws would be more effective in protecting American user data rather than trying to limit just one app.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Fight for the Future, and the Center for Democracy and Technology said the bill “would set a troubling global precedent” for government control of social media.

Oh, and FYI: there is . The SIM tray is very small.
