Dr. Martens has collaborated with Supreme on a color-changing shoe

The new collaboration between Dr. Martens and Supreme brings a whole new meaning to “breaking in” footwear. The shoe company is launching a special edition of the 1461 3-Eye Oxfords in leather, the original color changing the more you wear them.

The shoe starts out in two colors: the black shoe’s finish wears away to reveal the metallic silver underneath, while the reddish-brown shoe eventually reveals green and blue for a look that definitely resembles a “heat map,” or as fans on Dr. Martens Instagram account “Shoes Weather Forecast.”

Neither company revealed exactly how This color change works, but they note that since each pair changes depending on how they are worn, no shoe will look the same.

The shoes are made with cushioned soles and come with black shoelaces, printed logos on the insole, and an embossed logo on the heel, according to Supreme.

These color-changing shoes are the latest in the long-standing relationship between Dr. Martens and Supreme that reimagines classic silhouettes with standout motifs like cow prints and artwork from Japanese brand Yohji Yamamoto.

Before Supreme x Dr. Martens, MSCHF has released its own color-changing shoe in 2022 Tonight show Host Jimmy Fallon. The $195 “Gobstomper” (a play on the colorful Gobstopper candy), was a white suede sneaker that revealed red, yellow and blue after wear.

The Supreme x Dr. Martens is available March 21 and 23 in Asia as part of Supreme’s Spring 2024 season.
