The current iPad lineup is a cluttered, confusing mess. There are two iPad Pro sizes, one iPad Air, and two generations of the regular iPad and the iPad Mini that are still alive and kicking. Not only are current iPad offerings confusing, they’re also getting better. Apple didn’t release any iPads last year, making it the first calendar year without a new iPad since Apple’s tablet first launched in 2010. If the rumors are true, the long wait for new iPads is almost over. The new iPad Pro and Air models are expected to launch in early May, according to The Verge Latest report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Apple needs to do something with the iPad to keep consumers interested in its device that isn’t an iPhone or a MacBook. The iPad has always occupied a middle ground between the company’s phones and its laptops, and now the company is in that middle ground with the arrival of the Vision Pro. CNET’s Scott Stein said the Vision Pro looks like “an iPad that exploded into space.” The Vision Pro is too expensive right now to cannibalize iPad sales, but as its price drops in the coming years, it will compete with the iPad for our third-screen needs and dollars.

OLED is coming to the iPad Pro
OLED is the big news with Apple’s high-end iPad Pro. The new models will reportedly ditch Mini-LED displays for OLED displays that will deliver more vibrant colors, true black levels, and superior contrast. OLED panels can also support a wider range of refresh rates. Newer iPhone Pro models feature always-on OLED displays that can operate as slowly as 1 Hz to extend battery life.
The updated iPad Pro will come in 11- and 13-inch sizes, with the latter being slightly larger than the current large 12.9-inch Pro. The new Pros are also expected to upgrade from Apple’s M2 chip for existing models to the M3 chip. Other rumored changes include USB-C and MagSafe wireless charging as well as an updated Magic Keyboard with an aluminum cover and a larger trackpad.
iPad Air expands to 12.9 inches
A larger iPad Air is expected to be added to the line this spring. The current fifth-generation iPad Air is based on a 10.9-inch display and an M1 chip. The new lineup will be based on the M2 chipset and will be available in 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch models. The 12.9-inch Air will give tablet buyers the ability to get a larger screen without having to pay the premium for the Pro model.
The new iPad Airs are not expected to move to Mini-LED or OLED displays and will retain their LED-based liquid retina panels. back camera, According to the 9to5Mac website, is expected to be housed in a new camera bump that includes a flash, a feature not available on the current Air. The rumors are murkier for the entry-level iPad and iPad Mini. Both could get a processor increase, with the 11th generation iPad moving to the A15 chip and the 7th generation iPad Mini getting an A16 chip. With the arrival of the 11th generation iPad, Apple will likely keep the 10th generation iPad as a budget offering and phase out the 9th generation model, which is the last remaining model to have a home button. These updates are expected not this spring but later in the year.
By the end of the year, perhaps we’ll finally see the long-rumored foldable iPad.
