Henning Larsen It unveiled its latest architectural wonder Volvo World The exhibition and event center in Gothenburg, Sweden, features a distinctive “jungle-like” roof structure. The 22,000 square meter circular structure was commissioned by the Swedish automotive giants Volvo cars And Volvo GroupDecorated with a ceiling inspired by the natural world.
Manufactured from glued laminated timber (glulam) and cross-laminated timber (CLT), the building features large timber columns arranged to mimic the shape of tree trunks, creating an attractive and organic atmosphere. These columns rise and spread outward, supporting the roof while enveloping visitors under a canopy reminiscent of a green forest.

Located in Gothenburg’s vibrant event district, the center aims to provide visitors with a welcoming space with a strong connection to nature.
The design concept draws inspiration from Sweden’s landscape, with the building’s design and materials reflecting the country’s spirit of “Allemansrätten”, or freedom to wander in nature. The use of timber is not only consistent with sustainable practices, but also serves to embody the regional landscape in both form and content.

Featuring a glass facade, the building has a wide staircase along its exterior, providing seating opportunities and easy access to the landscaped rooftop garden. The upper floor, punctuated by glass walls, contains exhibition spaces, a bar, a restaurant, conference facilities and work space.
