There is nothing more frustrating than a Bad internet connectionBut researchers from Aston University may have solved this problem once and for all. A new method has allowed scientists in the UK to send data 4.5 million times faster of medium broadband, setting a new world record.

In partnership with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology in Japan and Nokia Bell Laboratories in the US, Aston researchers were able to transfer data at a rate of 301,000,000 megabits per second using standard optical fiber. This compares to the average UK broadband performance of 69.4Mbps. In the US, average download speeds are faster, An average of 242.4 MbpsBut hacking is still a million times faster.

This feat was achieved using new wavelength ranges that are not used in traditional fiber optic systems. The new wavelength ranges equate to “different colors of light transmitted through optical fibers.”

“In general, data was sent via optical fiber like a home or office Internet connection,” Ian Phillips, a researcher at Aston, said in a press release. “However, besides the commercially available C and L bands, we used two additional spectral bands called the E band and the S band. Such bands were not traditionally required because the C and L bands could provide the required power to meet the needs of consumers.

Aston University has developed an optical amplifier that allows data wavelengths to operate in the E-band, which researchers say is almost three times wider than conventional wavelengths used to transmit data. Before this breakthrough, no one had been able to simulate E-band channels in a controllable way.

This solution is great because it does not require new infrastructure to significantly improve internet speeds, and can allow for much faster internet speeds over existing fiber cables.

This hack could revolutionize internet speeds across a wide range of users. If this new, faster Internet is widely implemented, it could help provide access to tens of millions of Americans who do not have reliable Internet. For ordinary Internet users, it can make downloading movies and large files almost instantaneous. For large companies and technology researchers, this can speed up development speeds several times.
